Lieutenant Colonel Gary Veacock

Lieutenant Colonel Gary Veacock and other Royal Marines will be helping to deliver this year’s abseil.

Gary’s wife received life-saving treatment for a neuroendocrine tumour at the Royal Free Hospital. He said: We are your Royal Marines – the nation’s Royal Marines – and it’s a privilege to deliver this event with the Royal Free Charity in gratitude for the exceptional care given to our families.

The care my family received has been nothing short of extraordinary. The teamwork and dedication of the staff remind me so much of my time in the marines; it’s never about the individual but the whole team.”

The difference you’ll make

By taking part in the Royal Free Charity Abseil, you can help us to deliver vital services that support the 17,000 members of staff and more than 2 million patients they care for across our hospitals.

  • Our support hub helps patients with long-term health conditions or life-changing injuries so that they can receive practical support, such as housing, financial and benefits advice.
  • Our complementary therapy service provides specialised therapeutic massage to patients and staff.
  • Our dedicated volunteers offer companionship to patients with dementia, help with mealtimes on wards, direct patients to their appointments and much more.
