Emily’s story

Emily is incredibly grateful to the staff at the Royal Free Hospital, having undergone a life-saving bone marrow transplant in 2013 due to a rare auto immune deficiency called GATA2. To say thank you, she took on the the TCS London Marathon to give back to the doctors and specialists who cared for her.

I cannot begin to explain how amazing the Royal Free Hospital was with regard to my care. All the people who looked after me and the incredible man who donated his bone marrow were and still are my heroes! They’re all superhuman in my eyes and I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for them.”

Jon and friends

Jon Kelly, his friends and family, completed the Surrey Half Marathon, smashing their fundraising target and raising over £3,000 for amyloidosis research.

Jon put the team together after his father, Richard, died.

My dad was diagnosed at the National Amyloidosis Centre and myself and my family want to raise awareness about how the disease presents itself, so that others can get diagnosed earlier.

It was such a great day, we had a blast! I’m saying that now, it was quite hard, but well worth it for all those lovely donations! I’m so proud of the epic team!”

UK Railtours

Popular rail tour company UK Railtours raised £10,000 in memory of its founder John Farrow.

John’s family, led by son Simon and widow Claire, organised the fundraising event to thank Royal Free Hospital staff for the care and compassion they showed him when he was admitted to the hospital for bowel cancer surgery in late 2019. Sadly, John struggled with post-surgery complications and contracted COVID while in hospital. He died during the first national lockdown.

The John Farrow Salute memorial rail trip raised £10,000 in donations, raffle proceeds and ticket sales for the tour, making it the most successful one-day fundraising event in the company’s history.
