Mileto Caffé
You can enjoy traditional Italian coffee and cuisine at the Mileto Caffé in the atrium of the Pears Building in Hampstead.
Overlooking our terraced gardens and Hampstead Green wildlife meadow, the artisan café supports the work of the Royal Free Charity,
Owner Federica (pictured) has recreated the ethos of her family’s café in Rome for the benefit of our local community, including residents, patients, and NHS staff.
Mileto Caffé’s coffee is made from beans Federica imports and roasts herself and it’s available to buy, whole beans or ground, in the café for home use.
Federica also provides an authentic Italian menu with regular and new breakfast and lunch dishes.
The café is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm.
Art in the atrium
A sculpture that pays tribute to the work of scientists undertaking the UK’s most advanced research into the human immune system is the centrepiece of the building’s atrium area.
The sculpture, entitled Synthesis (heavy chain), recounts all the genetic code variations possible for human protein creation.
It incorporates a representation of the natural human antibody to SARS-COVID‑2, which was identified by IIT researchers.
The sculpture has been suspended from the exposed concrete ceiling above the atrium. It is visible from the reception and the atrium café and the academic areas on the first floor, creating a link between the different functions of the building.
The sculpture was created by New Zealand artist David Rickard and commissioned by UCL Public Art.
