Relatives and carers of patients at North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) can now stay with their loved ones who require close support overnight or spend precious time with those who are in end-of-life care.

Thanks to funding from the Royal Free Charity, twenty-seven portable beds are available for use in wards across the hospital.

The portable beds are designed with convenience and comfort in mind, ensuring family members can rest nearby without compromising clinical care.

Jon Spiers, chief executive of the Royal Free Charity, said:

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’re able to be there for patients and their families across our hospitals. This latest investment at North Mid will help make some of the most difficult moments more bearable by keeping carers close to their loved ones.

The foldable, space-efficient beds can easily be placed in patient rooms, offering a more personal and supportive environment for patients.

Trudy De Cordova, head of patient experience at North Mid, said: This initiative was driven by patient feedback regarding the lack of overnight facilities. It aims to enhance the experience for patients and their families, particularly those receiving end-of-life care or supporting loved ones with disabilities.

By offering these beds, we are ensuring that families can remain close, providing vital comfort and support during challenging times.”
