The 2024 Marsden Lecture was delivered by Paul Ramsbottom OBE who celebrated philanthropy’s relationship with healthcare. Paul highlighted William Marsden’s enduring legacy, explored modern challenges to gift giving and paid tribute to the transformative role of philanthropy in driving innovation in health services and research. 

As chief executive of the Wolfson Foundation, Paul Ramsbottom leads one of the UK’s most impactful philanthropic organisations, funding excellence in research and education. 

His commitment to philanthropy extends beyond the UK. He is the chair of the Savannah Education Trust, which works to provide education opportunities for children in West Africa. He also serves on the board of Mercy Ships, a charity using modern hospital ships to bring world-class volunteer medical professionals directly to the places they’re needed most.

He was awarded an OBE for services to charity in recognition of his services to charity.
