Grateful patient gives back

One of the first patients to be admitted to Barnet Hospital’s ICU with Covid-19, on 20 March, was so grateful to make a good recovery that he and his wife made a donation of more than £3k to the unit.

That donation has been turned into a communication tool that will help the families of other patients in future.

Gary was at BH for about three months, seven weeks of which he was in intensive care. “The care I had here was absolutely exemplary. All of the staff here have been amazing – the specialists, the doctors, the nurses, the physiotherapists and of course the unsung heroes, people like the cleaners and the care assistants were absolutely marvellous.”

The donation from Gary and his wife Jenni has enabled the unit to buy a patient and relative communication tool – information “wallpaper” or very large posters – that give an understanding of the equipment being used to support the patient.

You can hear at first hand why Gary wanted to give something in this video.
