Laura’s been to the skies and back, and so can you!

Now’s your chance to sign up for the NHS’s birthday skydive! Find out why Laura Nelson recommends it…highly!

A few years ago, Laura Nelson took to the skies by taking part in one of our fundraising skydiving events to raise money for the hospital that has been caring for her for the past seven years.

Laura received a kidney transplant five years ago at the Royal Free Hospital, due to being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at birth.

“The care I have received and continue to have has been amazing and all the staff are so supportive and understanding. I have been volunteering with the Royal Free Charity for the past four years and love every minute of it, I have had the opportunity to meet new people and develop confidence in myself.”

In February 2019 she took part in a tandem skydive from 13,000 feet to raise money for the hospital.

“I have always wanted to do a skydive but was afraid of heights, but when I was given this amazing opportunity, I couldn’t say no, especially as I was raising money for a charity who has been so supportive over the past seven years. I really enjoyed the experience. The feeling of falling was very exhilarating and the views where amazing.”

Laura raised around £4,200 through taking part in the sky dive and has since raised over £3,000 through fundraising onsite (before COVID restrictions) and through a Facebook birthday fundraiser. But it is the skydive she remembers the most.

“I would not hesitate if I were given another opportunity. The experience has changed the way I think, and I am now happy to try new opportunities that arise. I urge everyone to give it a go as you will not regret it!
