Research scholarships for healthcare professionals – now open for applications
Applications for our research scholarships are now open. This new grant scheme will support nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals including healthcare scientists (excluding medical doctors and dentists) to help develop their research career.
The research scholarships are designed to enable healthcare professionals to undertake a research project and develop their research skills. It also provides an opportunity to generate pilot data that will enable award-holders to be in a stronger position to apply for further funding.
The research scholarships are designed to support clearly defined research applications that can demonstrate a route towards new or improved patient care.
How does the funding work?
Funding is available for up to £11,500. This is designed to act as a salary cost contribution for up to one day per week, for up to 1 year (or up to 2 years for part time staff). Applicants must spend one day per week on research and be released from their professional practice responsibilities. Applicants may also designate some of the funding towards research training.
Funding is available for two awards. The research projects should align with the trust’s R&D strategy.
How are applications assessed?
Applications will be assessed by the Royal Free Charity Research Review Panel using the following criteria:
- Importance
- Research design and methodology
- Feasibility
- Potential impact for patients
- Research career plans
The panel will include representation from healthcare professionals.
